
The level 2 certificate in ‘Understanding Climate Change and Environmental Awareness’, delivered through NCFE, focuses on understanding the nature of climate change and the role that can be played in reducing carbon emissions.
This exciting new course will be student-led wherever possible, and place practical, applicable skills, alongside theory, at its core. Students will develop their confidence and knowledge within the field of sustainability, supported by our experienced teachers and support staff. This course aims to empower students, encourage self-directed learning within an enthusiastic and positive environment.
Through an immersive, multi-media approach to learning, students at Oak Tree School will gain knowledge to act as drivers of positive change within the workplace and at home.
This will give students a distinct advantage over their peers, whilst equipping them for any future job role.
This qualification aims to:
- Focus on the study of environmental awareness and carbon footprint reduction associated with a wide range of workplaces and linked to the lifestyles of individuals.
- Offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge that is relevant, and can be applied, across a variety of sectors.
For students to gain this qualification, three mandatory units must be achieved:
Understand climate change, sustainability and environmental protection.
In this unit, learners will develop an understanding of climate change, sustainability and environmental protection, including global warming and climate change, sustainability and sustainable development.
Understand industry and the environment
This unit allows learners to develop an understanding of the roles that business and industry play in protecting the environment.
Understand resource efficiency and waste management
This unit will help learners to develop an understanding of how to reduce environmental impact through more efficient use of resources, including how to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions, how to reduce the environmental impact of organisations, individuals and water efficiency.
Students at Oak Tree undertaking this course, can expect a variety of mediums to assist with learning:
- Case studies.
- Class discussions.
- Questioning reports.
- Presentations.
- Studying using virtual reality headsets.
- Trips to Eden Project & ecological farms.
- Beach cleans.
- Learn to grow produce on the allotment.
- Reinforced learning through cross-curricular links.
This course is spread over two years with all assessments ongoing through an evidence-based portfolio, with no assessed exams.
