Home Our Approach Careers

Careers

At Oak Tree School, we are dedicated to supporting our students through the process of deciding what direction they would like to take when they leave our School.

We recognise the importance of presenting students with all of the options available to them both Pre and Post 16 and providing students with meaningful career related opportunities and activities from years 7 through to 11. Careers provision is a pivotal part of our curriculum and as a result, we have created the following school Careers programme for students from year 7 to year 11.

Careers Lead –  Chris Penfold

Chris has worked at Oak Tree School since 2020 but has many years’ experience working in SEND education. Chris worked for one of the largest FE college groups in the South West for 17 years where he began working as a learning support assistant and had subsequent roles as a teacher, course manager and curriculum lead within Foundation Learning.

If you have any queries about careers, higher education, or work experience, please contact them Chris at: Chris.Penfold@oaktreeschoolcornwall.co.uk or phone: 01872 264221.

During his time at the college, Chris has worked with students with a wide range of special educational needs as well as students with social emotional and mental health needs, and feels the most rewarding element of his role is  working with those young people, parents and other supporting networks in not only seeing their academic progress within school, but supporting their journey into post-16 education or training.

Quality in Careers Standard

As part of our ongoing commitment to careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) programme I am delighted to inform you that we have begun working towards The Quality in Careers Standard. This is a single national quality award for CEIAG in secondary and specialist schools, colleges and work-based learning providers.
In January 2023, The Department for Education (DfE) “strongly recommend” that schools work towards The Quality in Careers Standard as part of our ongoing careers strategy in line with the Gatsby Benchmarks for good careers guidance.
I look forward to sharing with you all of the amazing work that goes on within the school relating to our CEIAG programme and will produce regular updates in the school newsletter and website.
