The Lost Gardens of Oak Tree
Over the last year, students have embraced the allotment area, growing different crops such as, potatoes, peas, beans, courgettes, beetroot and other delicious greens. Our aim here at Oak Tree, is to offer a wonderful space for students to roll up there sleeves and spend time with nature, the benefits of which are well documented; improving stress and anxiety levels, improving overall mental health and wellbeing.
Over the next academic year we have some ambitious plans for the allotment, involving:
- Building a new Greenhouse
- Capturing food waste through our bokashi system
- A poly tunnel – potential.
- Maximising on crop growing, with a more efficient trellis system.
- Introduction eg. bug hotels, Bird boxes, bee hotels, bird baths and feeders.
- A renewable energy capture system project within the Lost gardens.
